2023 Season Preview: 5 Things You Need to Know
3/9/2023

The teams are set; fields are booked; the preseason is underway and the 2023 season is around the corner.

But before you’re ready to lace up those new cleats or cheer on your favorite player, let’s take a look at the 5 things you need to know for the upcoming season:

1. New Members of SJ NABA Leadership Team to Help Build on League’s Success

Max Rao (Commissioner), Andrew Kutsenda (President) and John Seaburg were the founding leaders of SJ NABA in 2019 with the vision to create a league that was exciting for all skill levels.

A noted success with the three skill based divisions, and even more impressive is that the league started and completed its first season during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SJ NABA is excited to welcome Chris Hyland (Communications and Web), Emily Bosisio (Finance), Jon Sandberg (Marketing & Sales) and Ryan King (Operations) to its leadership team.

“With this leadership team, our mission is to create and improve the operations and growth of the league,” says Max Rao, Commissioner.

“We want to continue to bring quality baseball for all players, coaches, teams, and fans in Northern California.”

2. Ten New Teams, Two New Conferences

SJ NABA now consists of 36 teams across 3 divisions, making it one of the largest wood-bat adult baseball leagues in the country!

We’re excited to welcome 10 new teams to the league’s summer season:

  • Bay Area Formosans

  • Bay City Rays Odyssey

  • Campbell Royals Blue

  • Left Coast Lumberjaxx

  • Midtown Mariners

  • North Valley Padres

  • San Jose Stealth

  • San Jose Reds

  • Santa Clara Twins

  • Silver Creek Pirates Black

This year, Division II will have two conferences, Candlestick and Coliseum with each conference having 6 teams.

“The two conferences are going to give our teams a heightened sense of competition and a more authentic playoff race feel," says Andrew, SJ NABA's President.

"We couldn’t be more proud to actualize what’s been a long term vision for the league and so grateful to have so many amazing teams so that we can provide this type of competitive environment.”

3. 96% of tryout participants find a team

It might have been cold, and Mother Nature held the rain, but there was no shortage of talent at tryouts on February 26th at Gunderson High School.

76 players were drafted by a team and are ready to make an impact for the season. An amazing show of dedication and excitement from players and coaches ready to build their teams for the 2023 season.

4. Game schedule released; season expected to end in July featuring more doubleheaders to reduce mid-season lull

No dog-days of summer this year. We want to maximize attendance, playing time, and competition by pulling in the end of the season to July which includes the playoffs.

Game schedule is now available except for the remaining 4 weeks which will be available later on in the year.

5. Mark your calendars: July 29, SJ NABA All-Star Game at Excite! Park

For the 3rd year in a row, SJ NABA All-Star Game will be at the home field of the San Jose Giants, Excite! Park.

This is one of the most anticipated and fun games for the league and its players to showcase to friends and family the success they’ve had this baseball season.

All concession stands will be open so make sure to come out and have a great day at the ballpark!
