Summer Season Playoff Primer: What You Need to Know

The SJNABA Summer Season Playoffs kicks off on Sunday, August 11, bringing excitement and anticipation to the baseball community. With the playoffs bringing out the competitive fire, here is what you need to know:

 

Playoff Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the playoffs and consolation tournament, players must have appeared at least eight games throughout the regular season and is reflected in a player and team's stats on the SJ NABA website.

 

This requirement ensures a level playing field and recognizes the commitment and dedication of players who have consistently contributed to their teams.

 

It is the responsibility of all coaches to ensure their players and their opponent’s players are playoff eligible.

 

 

 

 

 

Playoff & Consolation Brackets + Schedule

 

Division I

  • Top 3 teams in the Candlestick Conference and Coliseum Conference make the playoffs totaling 6 teams.
  • #1 seed from each conference receives a first-round bye.
  • #2 vs. #3 seed in each conference will play a single elimination game.
  • Semi-final and final rounds will be a best-of-three series.

 

Division II

  • Top eight teams make the playoffs.
  • Quarter finals are single-elimination games.
  • Semi-final and final rounds will be a best-of-three series.
  • Reseeding takes place in the semi-finals where the highest remaining seed will play the lowest seed.

 

Division III

  • Top seven teams make the playoffs, #1 seed has a first-round bye.
  • Quarter finals are single-elimination games.
  • Semi-final and final rounds will be a best-of-three series.
  • Reseeding takes place in the semi-finals where the highest remaining seed will play the lowest seed.

Teams who do not qualify for their divisional playoffs will play in a single elimination consolation tournament for the #1 draft pick in their division for the 2025 summer season.

 

The championship series will be played between August 25 and September 15.

Playoff Game Format

 

Game rules and conduct remain the same with the following exceptions for the playoffs:

  • Time limit continues. No new inning is still 2 hours 45 minutes.
  • Mercy rule continues. 10 runs after 7 innings and 15 runs after 5 innings.
  • Must have a winner for each game, no ties.
  • The international tiebreaker rule of a runner on second base either after the 9th inning or after we have passed the time limit, whatever comes first.
