About the NorCal Muffins Organization
The NorCal Muffins were founded in the Fall of 2023 by Kevin and Larry Kuang with a vision that went against the norms of traditional baseball culture. They wanted a team that didn't just played hard, but also stood out. The team set out to prove that baseball doesn't need to look or sound a certain way to be taken seriously. They wanted to show that being young doesn't mean being inexperienced, and that a group of passionate players with something to prove could build a legitimate, competitive program from scratch.
In their first season, the Muffins made headliners in SJNABA. What began as a handful of friends determined to make their mark has grown into a thriving baseball organization with over 40 players across two teams. They've made the playoffs every single season, earning respect throughout the entire league. Head Coach Kevin Kuang, who earned Coach of the Year in Summer 2024, continues to lead alongside co-founder Larry Kuang, and Mantecadas' Managers, Emilio and Orlando Ramirez.
The Birth of the Mantecadas
By Summer 2025, The Muffins' success and growing roster led to an exciting next step: the creation of a second team, the NorCal Mantecadas. Kevin and Larry Kuang continued to lead the Muffins, while Emilio Ramirez, Orlando Ramirez, and Jorge Quezada took over management of the Mantecas. The goal was simple: to give more players a chance to play, develop, and compete while staying true to the culture that made the Muffins special. Both teams now practice together, share training and coaches resources, and show up to support each other on game days.
